Joy Pritchett, Au.D., F-AAA
Doctor of Audiology
Dr. Joy Pritchett, President and CEO of Atlanta Hearing Associates, graduated laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Pathology and Master’s Degree in Audiology from Auburn University. She later graduated with a doctoral degree from Central Michigan University with a concentration in the assessment and rehabilitation of balance disorders.
Early in Dr. Pritchett’s career, she served as an Audiology consultant in a multidisciplinary consortium for the educational needs of school aged children with speech, language, hearing impairment, and learning disabilities. She continues to provide regional children’s hearing healthcare clinics who qualify on the basis of need and has done so for the past 25 years. Dr. Pritchett serves as an Audiology consultant for a host of state and federal programs for children including Head Start Programs, Babies Can’t Wait and many counties in the state of Georgia who do not have Audiology services on site.
Dr. Pritchett has been in private practice since 1997 with office locations in Dunwoody, Lake Sinclair, and Lake Oconee. Each of our Audiologists believes that the future of hearing healthcare is the development of best practices using evidence based guidelines gleaned from auditory research centers throughout the world.
The identification of evolving trends at the research level serves as a catalyst to improve patient outcomes and has become a primary focus as owner of Hearing Associates. Dr. Pritchett was one of the first Audiologists in the Southeastern United States to recognize the importance of using electro- physiologic measures to identify infants with hearing loss. First identified in the laboratory in 1971, these tests were used routinely at least five years in her clinic setting prior to gaining wide spread acceptance. Dr. Pritchett advocated at a grassroots level for universal hearing healthcare laws for neonatal hearing screening at birth. It was one of her small patients that spoke to the Georgia legislature regarding the importance of early identification that was ultimately passed into Georgia law in 1999.
Dr. Pritchett’s areas of clinical interest are: 1) establishing evidence based guidelines for the fitting of hearing aids, 2) auditory processing tests that are predictive for children who become poor readers, and 3) rehabilitative measures to reverse these processes. Dr. Pritchett is a member of the American Academy of Audiology, American Speech and Language Association, Georgia Academy of Audiology, Academy of Doctoring Audiologists, and licensed by the State of Georgia.
Married to husband Ed for over 30 years, Dr. Pritchett has three adult children.
